"UK Rap – Streets of London" Spotify Playlist

UK Rap - Streets of London

Lately, the Brexit came true. However, the exact outcome of that situation will be revealed later when the European Union and the UK will realise that many things need to be adjusted and will then initiate further steps. During my master studies in London, we talked a lot of the Brexit at university and its negative influence on the creative industries – in particular, the music business in my case. Regardless of the politics and their actions, I hope that the music industry tries to minimise the damage caused by the Brexit all together so it will not influence the international touring and collaboration that significantly. While we observe the next steps of music industry executives and politicians, we can enjoy the hottest tracks of UK’s rap scene – all collected in my new Spotify playlist “UK Rap – Streets of London”. Have fun listening!

Stam Audio SA4000 – The SSL-Style Stereo Bus Compressor

Stam Audio SA4000 - SSL-Style Stereo Bus Compressor

While plugins are incredibly useful, there is a reason why top audio engineers still have analogue gear in their racks. In today’s hybrid studios, one of the most significant benefits, while you are mostly mixing “in the box”, is to use quality hardware on your master bus. Hence we have a look at my SA4000, an SSL G-Bus style stereo bus compressor manufactured by Stam Audio in Chile. I received the SA4000 in 2017 when this unit was my very first Stam Audio gear. Since then, some other Stam Audio products like the SA-76ADG became part of my studio gear collection.

A77X by Adam Audio – Perfect Near/Midfield Monitors For Project Studios?

A77X by Adam Audio - Perfect Near/Midfield Monitors For Project Studios?

Until recently, I was a satisfied user of KRK studio monitors for almost eight years. Those speakers are super fun to listen especially when you produce urban or electronic music, but definitively lack in detail and transparency to be an appropriate toolkit for audio professionals. Additionally, I was looking for a set of speakers with significantly more power. After testing out different studio monitors in the same or even upper price range from brands like Focal (Shape Twin and Twin 6), Dynaudio (LYD-48), KS Digital (C88-Reference) and Neumann (KH 310A), I ended up buying the A77X by Adam Audio. Read in the following, what these monitors make special and why I have chosen them at the end.

Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life

Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life

In the context of the “Leadership Check Basic” by TTI Success Insights that I did in summer 2016 (read the full story and learn what it is in detail here), I came in contact with interesting literature as recommended readings during the coaching sessions that resulted from the above-mentioned test. One of the books was “Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life” written by American psychologist and mediator Dr Marshall B. Rosenberg, which I have read several times in total and just recently. In the following article, I want to familiarise you with Rosenberg’s book and the concept of nonviolent communication.

“Unique” Horn Section Recording

Unique Horn Section Recording

After we successfully recorded the electric piano, organ and Moog parts of “Unique” with the German jazz pianist Andreas Theobald, we let rest the production for a few weeks. Playing it back after the break that was used to concentrate on other tasks related to the producer concept EP, we had the feeling that a particular element was missing to complete the song as we envisioned it originally. After a moment’s consideration, we decided that the song needs a real horn section to take the song to the next level and to finalise it. We are more than happy to tell you that we were able to work with a professional horn section called Triple H Horns from the United Kingdom that did a stunning job! In the following, learn more about the guys behind Triple H Horns and how we recorded saxophone, trumpet and trombone for “Unique”.

“Unique” Keys Recording

Unique Keys Recording

One week ago, we talked about the guitar recording for the “Unique” song that is planned to be the second track of the EP project. The keys have a central role within the song’s arrangement because they are used to broaden the stereo width and to act as a tapestry of sound. By accident, we got German jazz pianist Andreas Theobald (Jugendjazzorchester NRW besides other band projects) involved in the project who then arranged a few layers of different key instruments and sounds to take the project to the next level. Find out how we recorded the different key instruments for “Unique” in the following paragraphs.
