Thanks to my parents' legendary vinyl record collection (= the antique way to have a "playlist"), I directly came in contact with funky music in my early days of life. Most of the time I was listening to this kind of music - first passively then more actively at an advanced age. Until today, these genres accompany me through the everyday life and influence me intensively as a musician.
As a vintage fan, I set myself the objective to stock up this collection with special releases of my time. According to my opinion, today's key players in the funk movement are Mark Ronson, DJ Cassidy, Tuxedo (Mayer Hawthorne & Jake One) and Chromeo. Their productions often combine traditional elements from the late 70s/early 80s with some modern flavour. Especially Mark Ronson ("Uptown Funk" or "24K Magic" with Bruno Mars) and DJ Cassidy ("Calling All Hearts" with Robin Thicke & Jessie J) try to catch the younger audience. They want to make them familiar with the funky tunes by featuring current lead artists of this generation. I am quite sure that the older generations are enjoying these tracks as well ;)
Therefore, I have created a Spotify playlist to present you old hits and new tracks from the actual "funk movement" as I call it. No matter where it comes from: America, Scandinavia, France, UK, Germany or Korea... So I really hope that I can put a smile on your face by sharing this song collection with you.
In addition to that my little tip: enjoy the Spotify playlist in shuffle mode!
Let’s make it a major movement again :)
The Spotify Playlist
Inspired by Mark Ronson, DJ Cassidy, Mayer Hawthorne and many more…
It can be a fancy major production with a huge band and orchestra or a synth-based project studio production. Legends meet newcomers, analogue meets digital, funk meets soul and jazz.
Spread happiness and love by sharing this!
